LEVEL I: the foundation of sustainable trails

The Foundation introduces the holistic approach to sustainable trail care and construction.

LEVEL I: THE FOUNDATION
We discuss current industry standards, guidelines and best management practices for sustainable trail construction, repair and maintenance. Topics covered include layout/design, trail assessment, realignment & repair, hazard & structure assessment, classification and risk management. Building to regional factors is emphasized as participants are introduced to the concept of the Sustainability Equation.  A thorough overview of current guidelines is provided, identifying gaps and applying up to date best management practices. Once participants become conversant with the baseline foundational concepts, the emphasis is on an adaptable and innovative approach to build world class trails.

The whole day really made me think more about the whole process of building trail and the bigger picture. I honestly can’t think of any way to make the class better, it was super engaging.
